the walkway was brimming with people, as a lone figure trudged on; his earbuds erupting with the melody of a day to remember. Kyler glanced around him, quietly taking in the faces of the people he passed, and mentally making up stories about them. a woman with designer glasses, and hollister apparel suddenly became a famous model, getting ready to arrive at her next go-see, and hopefully get a job. a man with ripped jeans, and long, shaggy blonde hair, became a man whom had struggled his whole life to make it by; and attempted to live his life to it's fullest, but never truly succeeding. silly things like this kept Kyler preoccupied, when left on his own with not a soul to talk to.
normally, he would be taking this opportunity to meet someone new. perhaps, stop them along the sidewalk, and ask them how their day has been so far. but today, he just wanted to get his damn coffee, go home, draw the blinds, and sleep. the past few days for him had been not so enjoyable, and had left him in a slump. a completely un-Kyler like slump. he would much rather have a smile plastered across his face, rather than pouting and avoiding all human contact. he probably still looked approachable, with his dark denim skinny jeans, red and gray striped pullover sweater, and gray beanie. it was just his expression that would most likely drive others away.
Kyler shook his head, slightly, pushing away the negative thoughts about his past few days, and found himself standing just outside of Starbucks. he hadn't even realized that he'd stopped walking, or the fact that he had been standing in the middle of the sidewalk, just shaking his head and pinching the bridge of his nose. he probably looked as if he was irritated, which he was, but that didn't mean he wanted to look that way. letting out a small sigh, he stepped forward and pulled the door to the shop open, and took his place in line. before long, he was standing at the front of the line, looking at the smiling lady behind the cash register. he forced a smile to his lips, and glanced up at the menu for a moment. "I'll have a Peppermint Mocha Frappucino, please." she began to press buttons on the cash register, and then looked at him once more, "that will be $5.99, sir."
after having waited a few minutes, he was finally handed his drink. Kyler had decided in his brief wait, that he was going to sit at the shop today to finish his beverage. he didn't feel like walking home just yet. so, he had taken a booth a few feet away from the door, and was playing temple run on his iphone. every few seconds, he would take a sip of his frappuccino, and then be absorbed back into his game. he made it about 2.5 miles, in the game, before he died, and decided to give up. setting his phone down on the table, he looked out the window while simultaneously taking a sip of his coffee, replaying people's stories in his head.

on plenty of occasions, walking around wandering the streets of vega seemed like a pretty good pastime to rat. although it wasn't extremely exciting or anything like that, things were always changing. even though most things stayed the same, little things changed. the people, mostly. which he found pretty interesting. just the fact that all those different people would congregate in one area, even without noticing each other at all. in a way, he liked that fact. so he tended to just walk around random places a lot. usually he was alone, but that didn't matter to him. he was happy enough walking around by himself, he was pretty good at keeping himself preoccupied for the most part. sure, talking to others was always nice, but he was used to not just talking to random strangers. that wasn't usually what he did.
but of course, in a town like vega, where things always seemed to be so full of drama, he was also quite alright with being quiet, and not so out in the open. it could get boring and things like that, but at least it kept him out of the drama, and out of trouble. drama definitely was not his favorite thing. it was usually pretty pointless to him. it seemed most stuff would blow over by itself after a few days, when something bigger and better popped up. rat could never wrap his head around that. what made all the drama so great? why did people constantly want to know who was doing what with who? to him, it didn't matter at all. whatever people did, he honestly didn't care very much. as long as he wasn't involved in it. sure, at some points in his life there had been drama he'd been involved in, but nothing extremely crazy. nothing that was life altering. so being alone, for the most part, was perfectly okay with rat.
that morning though, he'd gotten bored of walking pretty quickly. no one had really caught his eye, made him think more than normal at all. and seeing as he didn't want to go home at that moment, he hadn't been out very long after all, he figured he could just go somewhere around. it seemed that everything was pretty close to everything else, nothing was too extremely difficult to get to. but rat wasn't really sure if that was because everything was so close together, or just because he walked around a lot. but either way, he knew there were plenty of places he could end up going. walking for a few more minutes, he glanced up and down the road he was walking on, looking at the stores dotting the street. seeing the starbucks not too far down, he started walking towards it, going into the store. there were a few people there already, but he didn't pay too much mind to them at first. waiting in line, he looked up at the menu, deciding on what he wanted. it didn't take all too long, just a few minutes at the most. stepping up to the counter, he ordered his drink quickly, paying for it and turning away from the counter. scanning the room quickly, he looked at the few people sitting before noticing one guy. he looked friendly enough, or at least rat thought so. walking over, he looked at the other guy, offering a slight smile. "hey, mind if i sit?" he asked, shifting his weight slightly. even though he didn't normally do things like this, he was tired of being by himself right then.
